How come many teenagers and young adults speak a second language so fluently?

The studies say that anyone who learns a language after puberty, can't speak like a native. But I have seen many Spanish speakers who NEEDED to speak English in America, speak almost better and faster in English than we do.

I think the theory has been proven wrong too often. How come many teenagers and young adults speak a second language so fluently?
I started learning English at 16 and I speak it fluently. How come many teenagers and young adults speak a second language so fluently?
and what are those studies who say that ';who learns a language after puberty, can't speak like a native'; ?

i wanna see such a study

what i read is that those who learn early in life can assimilate easier a language because the human brain is hardwired to learn a language provided that somebody will teach him.
most of the time when you try to learn a second langauge ....you show your curiousity and you will be more curious to learn the depth of the langauge ., however you won't show the curiousity when you learn your first langauge.. it's just the passion and curiousity makes you perfect in the second language.
I grew up with three languages: greek, english and french and speak them fluently since I was a kid. It's all a matter of practicing a lot. Nowadays, you need to speak a second language if you want to have a decent job. The more languages you know, the easier it is to find a good paying job!
A lot of people have this ';fact'; as truth, but it isn't

There is some truth....your palate hardens after a certain age. but it has been done millions of times....speaking without an accent or really quite neutralizing it....It's hard work but can be done!
Americans speak a bit slow...(I麓m not trying to offend anyone)
Que???? (''.)

Just kidding! ('',)
cause the learn early my nephew is taking spanish he is in 1st grade
