What are some ways one could solve a child or teenagers bullying problems?

I do, mean solve the victims problems, not so much the kid who does the bullying.

I think, these children should be put into martial arts classes, and learn how to defend themselves with their fist.

I have this mentality, because it's becoming too common in our society where a long time bully victim will lash out in anger and, revenge by bringing a gun to school, and shooting innocent people. What are some ways one could solve a child or teenagers bullying problems?
Yes as someone who was bullied throughout school i would agree with you, Children and teenagers that are bullied should be encouraged to learn a form of unarmed combat not to mention that they will gain confidence and make new Friends through it, unfortunately i never learnt martial arts myself, but on the other hand when i finished school i eventually learned how to stand up for myself.

I know a lot of people will not agree but i think a good wallop in the face is the only thing that will teach some bullies, because i know that teachers will rarely do anything, my mother used to be spitting fire over the matter. What are some ways one could solve a child or teenagers bullying problems?
Put them in martial arts or get them into bodybuilding. The only way the bullying will stop is when the bully realizes that they can't get away with it. If adults intervene, it just proves to the bully that his victim is too weak to handle their own problems, and it most likely will not stop the harassment.

Bullies enjoy the feeling of power, the idea that they can make someone weaker do something they don't want to do or humiliate them without fear of being hurt or insulted back.

Sam is wrong to say bullies are ';cowards';..that's just a myth people use to make themselves feel better about being bullied, same as when Bush called the 9/11 terrorists ';cowards';. If bullies were so scared, they wouldn't pick on others.
In most martial arts classes, they wont allow you to use the acts taught in class outside of the classroom (for safety reasons for the other kids cause most of the time, the ones that bully, dont really know how to fight). If a kid that got bullied learned all these tricks on how to defend themselves, it may not stop at that. They may enjoy kicking the guy that bullied them's butt so much that they could seriously hurt them. I dont think that teaching violence in order to stop violence is the proper way to do things.

I think that we should go after the source (which is the one that bullies), and try to fix their problem instead. Therapy, phychiatrist, maybe scare them with the law a bit.

We shouldnt create more violence.

edit: the person being bullied most of the time wont go cry to adults. Adults should be smart enough to see whats going on.
Well, my father was a Marine drill Sargent, so I was raised ';old school';. I was told to never start a fight, try to negotiate, but never run. I was told to crack a bully in the head with anything I could get my hands on. You see, most bullies really cant fight. They are bigger then other kids, so that intimidates the smaller kids. Most bullies will back down when they are confronted, and the ones who don't back down when confronted, will run and cry when they see their own blood.
Most bullies are cowards who use intimidation to frighten their victims simply because they get away with it. If someone stood up to them or beat the crap out of them, then they'd rethink their strategy.
they should know how to defend their selves because if not bullies will tease them or make them slaves in their school.actually I experience that.it's pretty hard i know, because bullies are usually big.children should attend martial arts classes every Saturday.
