How can teenagers verbally bully each other?

I'm writing a book about teens in highschool. My main character is supposed to be verbally bullied by the most popular girl in her grade. I've never been verbally bullied before so I have no idea of what my character can do that is not cheesy. I have been physically bullied by kids that are 2-3 years younger than me. I don't want to put my character through that, since it is horrible. So please help me. Nothing dumb please or I'm reporting you!How can teenagers verbally bully each other?
Name calling

jokes about appearance (Mean ones)

saying nasty things

threats (but not doing)How can teenagers verbally bully each other?
Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and burned it.

I was verbally bullied in school. I was called names involving my height (at 5'9'; I towered over the majority of the girls in my class) I also didn't wear my uniform skirts so short that I would show my underwear if I dared bend (something that even back then, a number of the ';in'; crowd used to do as much as it is done today) or wear the latest fashion when out of uniform. I was bookish, and geeky. Didn't care much about the latest fads. That's what they used against me. My girlfriends didn't get involved (backbone, I am afraid, is something that I seemed to be the only one having in my group). Anyway, to make the story short, my mother told me to ignore them, that eventually they would get bored. She told me not to react. To behave as if they were not there at all. It was EXTREMELY difficult. But within 6 months, it was over. They didn't try to physically bully me for obvious reasons (they were scared as I was taller than they were, plus girls don't tend to physically hit others, they prefer verbal, which in some ways, is worse than physical bullying as it involves

psychologically harming the other person).
okay well since i am a teen...... i would say that the ';popular'; character should like, you know, point out her flaws and spread rumors.... that usually hurts a girl.... pretty bad.... and i think you should make you main character try and stoop down to her level and hurt the ';popular'; girls feelings.... and then she will feel bad for hurting the ';popular'; girl's feelings.........i HOPE that answers your question.... and what is the name of the book..... so i can look for it when it comes out.... i would good love to read it!!!!!!!!!!! i can't wait Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
