What are 10 things teenagers should know how to do before leaving for college?

My daughter is a freshman in high school and we are trying to prepare her for college in a few years.

I would like to know what the Yahoo! Answers community believes are the top 10 things that teens should know how to do prior to leaving for college.

BTW, she knows how to cook basic meals, do her laundry, balance a checkbook and live within a budget. But I am looking for more! Especially from college students who wish their parents would have taught them more before they left. :)What are 10 things teenagers should know how to do before leaving for college?
my daughter just left for her first year of college and it's prioritizing and discipline, she isn't going to have you there to push her to prioritize things and push her to study and make the right decisions. Talk to her, let her know she can't trust everybody, it's not only the common sense things she needs to know, it's what to do when she's homesick and how to take care of herself and handle her money.

Good luck when she does go off, it's not easy cutting the cord....What are 10 things teenagers should know how to do before leaving for college?
Ooo I've just started college now hopeuflly i can help!

To be honest she seems to have the most important things down. As for balancing her money i would suggest budgeting it per week and whatever she has left at the end, to save it somewhere so in a few months she will have surprisingly a lot of money.

- see if she has all the equipment she needs to organise her studies - folders, boxes etc

- make sure she has a cab number saved so she can always get home safe (oh yeah always leave spare money for a cab)

- how to economise on meals - we've been in a house for a month and as most of us go home at the weekend whoever has to stay in the house has very little choice of food. cheese on toast with baked beans always seems to be good.

1. Self Defense

2. Nutrition

3. Budget

4. Sustaining good relationships
Get herself up in the morning and off to school without parental nagging.

time management.

mending clothes - small tears, buttons, etc.
oh... i thought you were talking about ten crazy things she should do before college but mommies and daddies probably don;t want that advice well um hmm i mean i would hope she could do her own laundry but as a freshman she can't have that much experience with money so keep up with that when she gets a job, and get her to save for a car WAAAAY to many kids have mommies and daddies buying them for the kid... they need to learn how to do something like that for themselves and they will be proud of themselves for earning the money themselves. or if she saves up idk lets say $900 then say whatever she saves you and daddy will match her dollar for dollar that way she'll have a car that runs lol um i guess make sure she can write an essay if english iv AP is available in her school make sure she takes it it is very helpful especially if you had my teacher mrs roy whew tough but good... um hmm make sure she takes a math all four years of high school unless she's going technical path. i don't think there is much else... except come sophmore and junior year start deciding on what college!!!!!! get started early! hope this helped you
