What should be done with teenagers who post naked pictures of themselves and puts them online?

We really should do something to stop these young pervs. I like the idea of charging them with child porn and making them register as sex offenders. What would you do?What should be done with teenagers who post naked pictures of themselves and puts them online?
Technology has given kids a terrible way to get into trouble. High school kids in some of my local communities have gotten arrested for sexting and forwarding pictures, which constitute child pornography. Even someone who takes a picture of themselves and sends it out can be arrested for distributing child pornography. If you think that's unfair (as one previous responder did), it's really just the electronic equivalent of being a ';flasher,'; and I think most of us would like to see those people locked up.

So how do you separate out the typical ';dumb'; stuff any teenager can do, from the truly nefarious stuff a pedophile will do?

I don't have a real good answer, but I'd suggest that a ';first offense'; where both participants are underage should be treated seriously, but with counseling about the legal and moral implications of what's been done, rather than incarceration. But any succeeding offenses should be treated criminally.

Of course, to separate out ';first'; offenses from ';second'; offenses, a record must be kept of ';first-time offenders,'; but if upon reaching, say age 21, there are no further offenses, the first-time offenders can have their record expunged. In the meantime, that first-time offense would be sealed and not available to recruiters, employers, etc.

But only ONE chance. Second-time offenders would bear the full brunt of their offenses. Child abuse and pornography are serious issues, and need to be dealt with seriously...which, unfortunately, not a lot of the previous responders do. I'm assuming most of them don't have children...yet.What should be done with teenagers who post naked pictures of themselves and puts them online?
Well...at first I thought you ment that the people who own the websites who post the website with teenage porn should be charged %26amp;%26amp; I would have to agree with you.

But then I re-read the question, and you said the kids who post the pictures of themselves should be charged %26amp;%26amp; register as sex offenders?

I disagree, half the kids who do it are young, and still confused about a lot.Something should be done, but not that or nothing too harsh of that kind. They shouldn't be able to have a camera or internet
While I agree with your sentiment, that it is a little pervy for these kids to be seeing one another naked, I must vehemently disagree with your reasoning of charging them with child porn and making them sex offenders. This is like charging someone who has committed suicide with murder. Do you see the error?

Honestly, do you see any real difference between this sort of behavior and the ';you show me yours and I'll show you mine'; behavior of years gone. In fact, I see this as possibly a better situation as there is no physical contact between the two parties.

Charging these young people and turning them into criminals for doing something that is natural and normal is not only wrong, it is ludicrous in the extreme.
Making them sex offenders is excessive, especially because they wouldnt be able to be charged as an adult.

I think the solution is kids to be taught moral values and to respect their body from their parents. They should be told its okay to be curious about their body and sexuality but they have to be private, discreet, and respectful to themselves

I know, I'm sick of teens doing this too, its rediculious how many do it.
There needs to be a minor self publication of pornography charge.

Ideally you would fine them, force them into counseling and take away their internet / cell phone access until they reach the age of majority.

Even a kid posting naked pictures of themselves is something which cannot be taken lightly, however prosecuting them under current child pornography laws is excessive.
Jail won't really solve anything. But I do thin it would be possible to do these things:

Punish the parents (they didn't supervise their kid)

Demand that the child not touch a computer or wireless gadget that can do more than place calls. And keep it this way until the child hits 18.

Fine that child's parents if this punishment is ignored or broken

In essence, if you don't want your kid to be legally labeled, then parents should be forced to be responsible for their children.
While I have no interest in looking at their nakedness, it's a little extreme to charge them with something like that as they will never have a future after that, any children they have will be taken away from them (after they grow up and mature and are different people). At the end of the day, they're teenagers, they're young and stupid...
Considering that they are kids themselves I don't know if they could be charged with child porn, registering as sex offenders I can see. I totally agree that something needs to be done to stop them from doing this but I also think that parents need to have more control over their kids and keep an eye on their activities especially online.
The parents need to keep a better watch on what their children are doing. There are ways to put a block on computers so kids are not able to do certain things. I think it's a good idea that something be done to teens and young kids that post naked photos. At least scare them a little bit, so they stop making stupid decisions! It could save their life one day!
Well, among all the rules, Yahoo failed to add the most important one that might stop predators. No nude pictures! Leave it to Yahoo. I would notify their parents first. They should have a field day with them!!
An education campaign is much needed. I don't think they really know what they are doing and that you can get 10 years in prison for distribution child porn.
Wait.. you're saying.. underage kids who post their OWN photos online should be registered sex offenders? That's pretty stupid. We should focus on protecting them from REAL sex offenders and teaching them how to value themselves.
Why would any respectable young person want to do such a thing, have they no shame. I think that their accounts should be taken off them and they should be banned from using the web.
If parents raised there children right, they would know better than to post pictures like that anywhere, let alone on the internet.
treat them as sex offenders which is what they are

Posting underaged peoples nude pics is child porn.

'; we should make it illegal';

It already is illegal

thumbs down will not change the law
It is technically distributing pornography of a minor. So the same jail sentence as anyone else who distributes it.
I think it's the stupidest idea ever, and whomever thought of it seriously needs to get a life.
what should happen: teens caught doing it will be arrested as sex offenders.

what will happen: nothing
That is idiotic, there is nothing wrong with the nude human body at any age, I suppose you came out of the womb fully dressed?
charging with child porn, yeah, but registering them as sex offenders may just that itty bit too harsh.... maybe charging them a really hefty fine
I would do nothing, unless it was my own child of course. Other then that they have to learn from their own mistakes and stupidity.
Well the question started out good... But your an idiot. These KIDS need their parents to put them in check before something bad happens to them like some sick perv. raping and killing them!
Jail time in grown up jail and post the pics outside their cell.

If they want attention they will get plenty there.
dont even try to stop it its useless if thats what they wanna do then they do it who cares its not affecting you in any way
first off no one puts them online, they send them via cell. but is they get caught doing this then it is considered porn, and the gov. gets involved.
I believe it is barbaric and i am a teenager i believe we should make it illegal
They should be punished for doing something stupid!!
Nothing it will come back to bite me eventually

Jk!! haha
Well.......18 is a teenager, so it's perfectly legal.
If they are hot women, they should send them directly to my e-mail address so I can determine what should be done with them.
Who cares, let them embarrass themselves.
