What is the difference between Teenagers now and Teenagers back then?

Other than the fact that teens have more technology and more material things today, there is no big difference. The answers above me are mostly stereotypes. Teens have always been a little rebellious, prone to experimentation, impulsive, and in great need of acceptance from their peers. This has led them to make some not-so-wise choices, both in the past and today. Every generation of parents has worried and wondered if there is any hope for the next generation.





But teens have also always been enthusiastic, generous, energetic, and creative contributors to their schools and communities. Give them a chance to do something worthwhile, and most of them will step up. They just need a little guidance and a sense of meaning in their lives.





Parents and teachers do try to do that - I don't think they are doing a worse job today. I think for the most part, they're doing better. Risky behaviors and problems such as drinking, drugs, sex, and pregnancy are actually lower among today's teens than they were a generation ago, and the level of academic achievement is higher.





Give parents and teens some credit for dealing with a difficult world - don't take such a negative and stereotyped view. What is the difference between Teenagers now and Teenagers back then?
The real question is whats the difference between the parent now and the parents in the 80s?





This is my answer....see back in the day parents spent more time with their kids and actually cared for them. They had time to TALK to them, be their friend, discipline them, and just be there. NOW u got parents that work all day and dont even see their kids probably until the night. Some probably have two jobs. These kids probably end up hanging out with people that influence them either in a negative or a positive way. Communication lacks and parents are less influential in teens life.


Situations like this are the main reason teens are the way they are today. Teens just want to be happy. They find this joy in drugs, sex, and alcohol. Why, cause they need someone to let them know they are there for them, they need guidance.What is the difference between Teenagers now and Teenagers back then?
In the 80s teens were much more content with less. They didn't grow up in a high-tech, I-Pod, I-Tunes, Blackberry, Laptop, Hannah Montana world so they just was content with going outside, playing, sports, and after-school activities. Kids in the 80s didn't mind working just to get a used car either as their first car. But these kids nowadays wants everything handed to them and can you blame them. Kids in the 80s went to the library and manually looked for certain book. Kids Now days just get on the net. Kids back in the 80s focused on being kids. These kids now days you can't tell them nothing and they know nothing from nothing and in a rush to go no where.
i'm a teenager i don't smoke and i don't drink!


but there really isn't a difference too much as to how teens act


drinking and smoking have always been around maybe not as out there as it is now but it was there in the 80s too!


things were different in the 80's in fact my oldest brothers grew up in the 80's the styles were different they used beepers instead of cell phones heading into the 90's and stuff


they still acted like teens and faced the same problems as today


but now since it's 2000 things have changed with technology but not too much.


let's change it around and say that my brothers were born in the 90's and i was born in the early 2000's


we would still act the same but instead of us fighting over who get's to play the monopoly game or the nintindo game, we might fight over who plays the xbox 360 or something


i'm actually a 90's kid growing up in the 2000's so i know what it's like

Back then, they don't send out rogue chairs and get a cute mouse pregnant.

Back then, in the 70's , they actually have manners and listen to adults instead of bashing people up just because they are ';bored';






people want instant gratification now and don't want to work for anything. the media influences teens way too much. they want this and that that celebrities have and don't realize that they need to work for these things.





these are things that i see and i was a teen in the 90s
well, they are spoiled, have more tech, but other than that, none


in medieval times they were getting married and having sex at 14, or 15.


so other than marriage, not much of a difference in that.
They were more controlled, which is not a bad thing. Teenagers were more friendly and didn't commit as many crimes and didn't have to face half as many problems as we do now days.
