What are some tips for obese teenagers to loose weight?

I am a 14 year old boy and weigh 235 pounds. I've been trying to watch what I eat but its not working. Any suggestions? What are some tips for obese teenagers to loose weight?
At 235 pounds, you need about 3,000 calories to maintain your weight. In order to reach the maximum safe weight loss rate (between one to two pounds a week), you need to cut that in half. Eat only 1500 calories a day. The limiting factor with this is hunger. Most people will not maintain that diet for any length of time because hunger will force them, sooner or later to break their diet....usually sooner.

You need a method to suppress your appetite. Luckily, it's not too tough. There are two books that should be immensely helpful in your goal to lose weight. The first is The Shangri-La Diet. The second is The Rosedale Diet. Both can be had cheap from Amazon.com.

The Shangri-La Diet isn't a diet so much as it is a VERY effective method of appetite suppression. Here's what you do. Buy a bottle of extra light olive oil (that's extra LIGHT, not extra virgin). Basically, you want the oil to have as little taste as possible. Extra light has no taste that is detectable by most people. Now, take four tablespoons of that a day, all at once. The trick is that you can not have put anything in your mouth that has any taste to it whatsoever for one hour before and one hour after drinking the oil. No diet softdrinks. No gum. No brushing your teeth....NOTHING with any taste for that two hour window (an hour before and an hour after drinking the oil). It's OK to drink plain water. Doing this dramatically lowers the weight your body wants to be. The most noticeable effect will be a VERY strong suppression of your appetite. You won't want to eat much. And junk food will have no appeal to you. It's nothing short of amazing. For many people, just doing this is all that is necessary. They will slowly and steadily lose weight over months and months, without bothering to keep track of what they eat. They just eat what they want to. And what they want to is naturally substantially less than what is necessary to keep them fat.

The oil has about 500 calories in it, leaving you 1000 calories a day to eat as food. What should you eat? That is the subject of the second book, The Rosedale Diet. The Rosedale Diet is all about controlling your body's set point by eating a diet that controls your levels of a hormone called leptin. You will find it easy to eat only 1000 calories of these foods once your appetite is suppressed. Basically, these are low fat meats, fatty fish, nuts (except peanuts), Omega 3 oils (like what is in fish) and no carbs except for fibrous carbs (ie vegetables).

Doing those two things should make it easy to maintain your 1500 calorie a day diet (you won't believe how easy). Weight loss should be substantial, especially during the first week. After a couple of months of doing this, you won't believe how much weight you've lost. What are some tips for obese teenagers to loose weight?

I don't know that counting calories can do much... your body has a set point at which it wants to store fat, and your body will jump at the slightest opportunity to store an extra calorie if it isn't at its set point. When I was young, I was lucky to have a decent metabolism, combined with an almost unhealthy growth spurt (6'; in the summer between 8th and 9th grades). The best way to burn fat is to put on muscle. For all the glories of cardiovascular health you can get from aerobic exercise, building muscle mass is what will do YOU the most good. Doing 3 sets of 8-10 reps of the heaviest weight you can manage (with at least a day off to let the muscle you tore down rebuild) while eating a high protein, low carb diet will not only burn a lot of calories, but add a lot of muscle mass. As an amateur bodybuilder, I worked on 1 set of muscles on Monday and Thursday, and the other set of muscles on Tuesday and Friday, and took the other days off to let my body rebuild. Muscle burns calories 24-7-- even when you're asleep, you're burning plenty of calories. And, even if you never end up looking like a bodybuilder, a big guy with enough muscle to back it up will still get respect. You'll be really sore when you start out; but, just keep at it, and you won't feel that, anymore.
Well if you start exercising that would be a good first step. You want to avoid processed foods, foods that have been chemical altered with artificial flavors and sweeteners, hydrogenated products, and preservatives. I've written an entire articial on how people should diet if they want to get healthy. Check it out at http://wellness-exercise.blogspot.com/20鈥?/a>
write down everything you eat (and the amount of calories) normally for a few days. then cut your calories to around 1,200-1,400 a day. and continue to write every thing down.

cut out junk food, fast food, and bad sugars. cut out carbs, pasta, white bread, potatoes... anything white.

instead use whole grains, and and fruits as your crabs.

eat lean protein like chicken, and fish. plenty of veggies. and only drink water. at least 8 cups a day.

then exercise. cardio work outs for 1 hour every other day.
even if you watch what you are eating, you need a hobby other than watching tv with a popcorn in your hands, so that ur activity level is increased. its not your fault the modern lifestyle has made it very convenient to be lazy and get all diseases due to inactivity. start slowly . everyday you return from school, dont open the refrigerator instead do a chore like sweep or vaccuum ur room. then throw the trash, walk a few blocks to ur friend. help around the house with any lifting moving stuff. next eat a salad before ur main meal. whenever ur hungry grab a fruit apple, pear , kiwi etc. you will notice immediate results in a few weeks and then u can proceed to the next stage of resistance exercises. let me know if this helps.
you HAVE to eat fresh veggies and fruits and cut down on the meat.

NO soda whatsoever

don't eat anything fried

eat very few items that contain preservatives

and you definitely have to exercise. walk, bike, run on the treadmill. get membership at your local gym
hey!

i'm 15 and im involved in sports.

you're 14, if you're in HS, get involved in some sort of sport.

personally, i play volleyball in the fall....and that is precisely why i have toned thighs and legs (well...in the fall anyways...haha)

uhmm...

idk...do u have a dog? WALK IT! and even if you dont, still, take walks! get a walk buddy if you dont want to walk alone.

uhm...eat lots and lots of protein bc it keeps u full and your blood sugar will remain equalized and not increase/ decrease...which...consequently, does make you hungry.

never ever skip meals...because u have to keep ur metabolism going!

hey..it's summer! go swimming in a local pool!=]

that's always fun.

%26amp; most of all, ask your family and friends for support. they are really important factors in this journey you are about to embark on..(haha....embark!) lol

=P

GOOD LUCK!

Remember that we're all different and that part of the component is your metabolism and your body type, which are genetic. However, there are many things that you can do despite this.

The key is food intake, quality of food and the energy you spend.

It's great that you've started watching what you eat. That's the first step. You haven't been really specific about waht you mean by this though, so here are just some basic tips.

Find out your daily calorie intake for your age. Make sure you stay within taht range. You don't have to count every single calorie you eat, and it's ok to go over or be under once in a while, but you want to stick to that to make sure you're giving your body the energy it needs to avoid going into survival mode.

Avoid diets. They work short term, sure. But then you gain the weight right back. Why? Because when you deprive your body of the food it needs, it sheds muscle first. Any food that you do eat will then be stored at fat. This is survival mode when your body is being deprived. Because your muscles burn calories, when you shed muscle you then need to reduce your calorie intake to be able to continue losing more weight. Eventually it is impossible to maintain and when you stop the diet, the weight comes back as fat and is harder to lose.

Focus on burning fat, not losing weight. You may not notice a difference in the scale because muscle weighs more than fat, but you will notice a difference in your body, in your clothes and the way you feel.

To burn fat you need to do two things. Exercise and eat right! You need to get two kinds of exercise. Cardio will help you directly burn fat (running, walking, jogging, biking, skating, etc.) Pick something easy at first if you haven't been working out for a while, and then gradually increase. Start with a 20 minute walk three times a week. If this is easy, go for longer walks, start walking uphill or start jogging.

You will also need to work on building muscle. This will also happen during cardio, but you can also do so with strength exercise. You don't have to do any weightlifting or body building. Just simple things like pilates, kick boxing or aerobics will help. Start with once a week at first. If you don't have access to a gym, just do a few crunches and pushups at home. Start with a single one and increase from there. It may be hard at first, but as you build muscle, this will help you burn fat and shed the right kind of weight.

Set realistic goals for yourself. Don't expect to lose 30 lbs in a month. That is not healthy for your body! Decide what an ideal weight for you would be, and give yourself a realistic time frame. To lose weight healthily, a good pace is 1-2 lbs. a week. more than 5 lbs. in a week is unhealthy because it means you are losing muscle. So for a goal of losing let's say, 10 lbs. give yourself 5-10 weeks. I know it seems long, but you will be happier with the results because they will last longer too and the weight will be less likely to come back!

Don't worry if the scale goes up a bit at first! Because muscle weighs more, you will gain a bit at first as you build muscle. It will go down as this muscle begins to burn off fat and you will notice your clothes becoming roomier.

Watch what you eat but don't deprive yourself. Avoid skipping meals as this will kick your body into survival mode. Eat healthy foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables as much as possible. Reduce red meats, avoid caffeinated beverages, fast food, refined sugars and processed foods as much as possible. It's ok to have sweets once in a while too.

Most of all, don't give up. It's ok if it takes longer than planned to reach your goal, and if the weight loss isn't steady. You're allowed to eat sweets now and then, and you're allowed to skip out on your exercise now and then too. Just make sure you keep at it. Even if you don't lose all the weight you wanted to, you will still be healthier!

If necessary, talk to your doctor or a nutritionist/ dietrician about your efforts to lose weight. They may be able to find certain behaviours that you didn't realize you could change that will help.

Remember that some people struggle with their weight their whole lives despite good habits. We live in a culture that shifts a lot of individual blame to people who are overweight and obese, and many overweight people give up on their efforts to lose weight as a result. Don't let that make you bad about yourself. Congratulate yourself for all your hard work and getting as far as you did.

You can find love and happiness in life no matter what you look like, how much you weigh and what your body type is.

good luck!
