Should teenagers have the option to do vocational training from 14?

Such as apprenticeships into construction, mechanics, hairdressing, beauty, etc?

There are a lot of bored kids 'going through the motions' of exams in the schooling system. Some people just want to get out and earn money. Some of them need to in order to move on in their lives.Should teenagers have the option to do vocational training from 14?
Yes I think that is a good idea. I've had 14 year olds on work experience and they loved it. It should be combined with a college based course too - day release we used to call it. it worked well and got the young people into a work ethic routine.Should teenagers have the option to do vocational training from 14?
Well most highschools in the US have a vocational school or they used to when I was there.
Our kids do. I'm impressed at what they do offer for their GCSE's - my daughter did a year's course in stage and film makeup. While courses in photography, flying (yes - in conjunction with the local airfield) and mechanics, along with the usual Maths, English, sciences, languages, etc.

Have a look around and see what the schools are offering. Our headmistress is very innovative.
yes they should have that option. exams, universities, degrees should not be the best avenue!! having the option of going for vocational training at a young age would mean that the teenager chose that route himself, not forced into it by the ';system';. that would mean that the teenager would enjoy doing it, make more effort, maybe become more responsible etc.
I like the sound of that it makes sense and also gives the person time to decide if thats the career they want to be in
I think they should. Not everyone can afford college, and it would be nice if they could get some career training while still in high school.
I think 14 is too young. They should get as much education as possible, then when they are 16 maybe then do an apprenticeship. There are always going to rare occasion where it may be in the interest of the child to leave early, but being bored is not a good enough reason.
I was lucky enough to take a cosmetology course and received my high school credits during my senior year of high school. I loved it, and it was good for me.

I wish my son could learn something in high school that he enjoys and that could help him get a job when he gets out of high school. He wont be able to afford college, so he'll probably work somewhere flipping burgers.

Unfortunatly the mexicans got the construction labor jobs around here, but if my son could learn construction in highschool, at least he'd have a skill to help him become self-suffencent.
Yes, they should be able to. My mom actually encouraged me to do it when I was 11, 12, 13, and 14. I never did anything, though. So she stopped trying.
no because you dont know wat u are doing at 14. u need a little direction for a while.u have plenty of time to makeurlife and make muny
