PLZZZZZZ ( give a psycological reasoning and examples about why they do that .. and why sometimes its okay if they do that)How would you get teenagers to stop thinking about themselves %26amp; start thinking about others?
How to become less selfish-
Create projects that can be done which are fun
yet at the same contributing to the well-fare of
others. Making giving something fun, and good
to do will take away some of the negative
notions naturally attached to the mention
of the action. How would you get teenagers to stop thinking about themselves %26amp; start thinking about others?
I'm no psychologist, but teenagers (like myself) are generally self centred because it is a part of life and maturing.
Generally speaking, were high as a kite when something good happens, and down in the dumps when something bad does.
Being mature comes from experiencing these, and learning to ground yourself to the middle ground. Sure, you experience the same events, but you aren't 100% ruled by your emotions because you have responsibility and people need you to be able to think straight.
Attempts to speed up maturity might overwhelm the individual, leading to a rejection of them event. So, you might force them to do something that you might think will open their eyes, but this might be too far from their comfort zone (way too depressing, for eg) and they will reject the scenario and learn nothing.
The best thing is to let things take their natural course. We can all remember being at one stage or another like that, but most of the population isn't, which means this method will definitely work.
Sometimes it's okay when they do that. They're going through a phase where they're thinking differently then they used to. They're growing up, seeing how life is not perfect. They want freedom, they want space, they want everything to go their way. And why they want it is a perfectly good reason. They're growing up. They're not little kids. they're not babies. They want to be independent. Mommy and Daddy want to help, they say no because deep down inside, they are trying to prove that they can survive on their own.
And to get them to stop? Look up pictures of poor people in Africa. Anywhere. Those people are so thin, you can see their ribs. Their feet are hard and blistered and have calluses from walking everywhere they go. They rarely eat. There's lots of ways. You just have to think.
I would send the teen to a shelter or some other place where people are less fortunate. Maybe that will open their eyes and want them to help others.
