How can music containing profanity be sold to teenagers under the age of 18?

I thought there was meant to be a law against this? If there isn't then I'm going to be calling for one at the very minimum, if not calling for the banning of offensive music together.

My 15 year old son has been able to purchase some rap music with some very nasty lyrics that I do not approve of at all.How can music containing profanity be sold to teenagers under the age of 18?
Your my worst nightmare. An obsessive control freak who tries to make the government bring in stupid laws. Heaven help us from people like youHow can music containing profanity be sold to teenagers under the age of 18?
music can be sold to anyone. im 14, my mother used to be against my music but now shes gotten used to it she even turns the volume up in the car(lol). But think about it even if you dont let him listen to the music because of the meanings and language he's still gonna hear things like that in school everyday or even when he's with friends. I guess what im trying to say is support your son even if you dont like the things he listens to, if you just dont let him listen to it he's gonna completly llose a connection with you.

PS: you should give him some CD's with good messages too, my i recomened P.O.D. there a rock band but there songs arent about vilonce(sp?) there mostly about helping out in the world
We hear the words everyday anyway...... I don't swear and I've asked my younger brother not to (he doesn't), but that doesn't mean that others won't. Truthfully, I don't like the way it sounds overall but that's the way the world is. There are much worse things going on in the world than people saying a few impolite words.

Ask him not to buy it and ask him to try to speak politely. If he didn't buy it from a store he'd get it from a friend or download it off the internet.

Even I listen to and like quite a few songs with such words in them and I like the way the songs sounds (obviously) but that doesn't mean I use the words just because I heard them in a song I like. Many teenagers hear those kinds of words from their own parents on a regular basis and don't use them themselves or seldom use them. My friend is like that.

Anyway, my parents never really told me not to swear but I decided I didn't want to on my own. If you stop him from swearing now he'll just start again when he moves out.

Like I already said, just ask him not to swear and mention it every time you here him; it might annoy him making him say such things less. There really isn't any way you can stop him from listening to that music though.......Besides, often times people listen to songs because it lets them release the anger they're feeling or think about things that have happened to them or emotions they've felt/are feeling. It is kind of a way of expressing yourself without actually speaking....
Around where I live, you have to be at least 17, the same age that you have to be to see an R rated movie, to get an explicit copy of a CD. If he doesn't buy it from the store, he will get it from a friend or online. He probably hears these words all the time anyway. Edited versions of CD's are becoming more strict, meaning that more and more words are getting censored. If you have a problem with him having the CD's edited, you seriously are way too protective.
i personally HATE rap but....

its his music, he should be able to listen to the music he wants to

as long as its not hurting anyone or making him act out......then whats the harm???

stop being so uptight/overprotective and give your poor son some freedom

then again you are his parent and if you hate it that much set some boundaries, its your call

remember, music is a form of expressing ones self...so in his eyes you'd be taking away his ability to freely express himself
honestly teenagers say things worse than the things they say on rap songs. shes a TEENAGER! hello...make any sense? I understand if you dont want and ';bad words'; in her music but she'll still hear it at school and in the world. Youll never be able to stop it. And if she likes the music let her be! Do you really think theyre going to pass a law for that?
It's not supposed to be. I worked at K-Mart and all parental advisory stickered music we had to ask for ID. If you go to Wal-Mart and buy music it's all censored. Best way to make sure your son doesn't buy offensive material..is to go and police him yourself.
The kids under 18 who buy it use profanity when their parents aren't around.

Honestly, I swear in front of my parents. It's not a big deal. I say everything but the F, N, and C word. They don't care.
If your 15 year old son goes to high school he will be hearing it everyday! he may even say it himself! Its just something that happens. You cant do anythign about it i'm sorry. But its just music, music doesn't need ratings!
Besides that fact...have you ever heard of limewire?

Yes, the Internet is a scary place where many illegal actions occur.
All the stores I've been to require an i.d. to buy music that isn't censored.
they take it up to the counter and give the cashier some money in exchange for the merchandise.
im sure he hears worse stuff at school

but its just music, although it can be offencive
What r u gonna do ***** to the FCC, nobody cares
