What is the normal level of a teenagers blood sugar?

My son is 19 and was diagnoised with hypoglycemia several years ago. Since then, we have had no problems controlling it but now he is away from home and he started feeling bad. A nurse checked his level and told him it was 52. My question is... What should it normally be and how worried should I be about him right now? Any suggestions on what he should eat asap to bring it up?What is the normal level of a teenagers blood sugar?
I have just gotten these ranges for blood sugars from a very reputable endocrinologist recently.

These are normal ranges for those that do NOT have diabetes..

Fasting70 - 99

2 hours after a meal 70 - 139

Ranges for those that do have diabetes are higher than these.

I was hypoglycemic most of my life before developing diabetes, and my husband is severely hypoglycemic. Your son needs to eat around 6 small meals each day, that contain good carbs. He needs to stay away from sugary things. Although they will help keep his blood sugar up, it will not sustain a healthy level, it will let it fall quickly. Carbs will raise his blood sugar to better levels and keep it there much longer. Having between meal snacks like granola bars, peanuts, peanut butter crackers, or any kind of good carb is what he needs. He needs to keep snacks close at hand when he is going to be more active, like football, or other sports, or just walking. He should eat a good snack before participating in exercise of any kind. Any time he starts to feel strange, weak, shaky, sweaty, you know the normal things he feels when his blood sugar is going low, he needs to eat carbs. Don't eat the sugar or the juice unless he is really bad and has to get it back up immediately. A person getting low blood sugar has warning signs and should pay immediate attention to them. He should also wear a medic alert braclet to inform people of his health problem in case he is not able to tell them. You son should also be tested for diabetes on a regular basis, because being hypoglycemic can sometimes be a prelude to developing diabetes. What is the normal level of a teenagers blood sugar?
i was hypoglycemic for a long time b4 i was diagnosed with diabetes, if they arent too low id drink juice and if they are a little more severly low soda works best for me, not too much. if his sugars are that low it could be a pre cursor to diabetes so keep an eye out, his pancreas is producing too much insulin and not working properly and eventually it may just give out, i wouldnt worry about the possibility of diabetes because you cant stop type 1 from developing but i would educate myself to know the signs and symptoms
A person without diabetes should have a blood sugar reading between 90-120. 52 is a little low... just tell him to keep some snacks in his pocket that he can get out easily whenever he feels like his blood sugar is getting low. For instance, Smoothie King sells small things of honey for .25 and i keep them in my purse. You could also get him a thing of life savers to keep in his pocket.
80-110 is a normal blood sugar level...52 is very low and im sure hefelt pretty crappy....u may want to check with a nutritionist and see about what type diet your son can eat....he should possibly carry some sugary snacks with him to raise his sugar..hard candy....etc which will help in a pinch
