What can teenagers do for the environment?

What are some programs that my friends and I could get involved in, or some things that we could do for the environment? Is there a Yahoo group for this? What can teenagers do for the environment?
Most areas have land steward programs where teens can get out and help maintain local wilderness areas by removing exotic plants and maintaining trails. Join an annual cleanup program, or go out on your own with a group and pick up a trashy site every month.

There are community gardens, where the young can rub shoulders with the elderly and get a little life experience while learning about the basics of growing food.

Educate yourselves. Get a degree in a field where you can make a difference, such as ecology. Join a group. Start a group. Write letters, sign initiatives. Don't stand silent when you strongly believe something wrong is going on.

Vote. And have good responses for friends who tell you they don't.

Don't smoke, drive cars that get good milage, or ride a bike and use mass transit.

Buy recycled products.

So many, many things you can do. I'm sure there are local programs in your area. Check with one of your teachers at school or a local church, they can probably give you some great ideas.

Good luck. What can teenagers do for the environment?
don't drive
Local action is the best!! Look for a project/problem in your locality and get helping!
personally, i find that going to volunteermatch.com is a great way to find events help in your area to benefit the environment. Also, you can help by reading and watching 'An Inconvenient Truth'...such a good book. Also, Arbor Day is coming up on the 27th so get a bunch of your friends to go out and plant a couple trees. If you really wanted to get a little messy, usually neighborhoods have like a street cleanup event. Recycling is also a great way to kickstart in to environmental mode!!!

Hope i was some help!!!
